Human remains discovered as investigation into Kelvin Grove man’s disappearance continues

Police have located what are believed to be human remains and declared two new crime scenes in Maidenwell and Moore, as part of ongoing investigations into the suspicious disappearance of Kelvin Grove man, Andrew Burow.

Mr Burow, 56, was last seen on August 20, with his disappearance reported four days later. Detectives established Operation Veer on August 27, launching a wide-ranging investigation across South East Queensland.

Following a public appeal on September 1, investigators received a Crime Stoppers report of a fire in the Blackbutt area during the early hours of August 26. That information led police to establish new crime scenes along Brooklands Pimpimbudgee Road at Maidenwell and in bushland along the D’Aguilar Highway near Moore, where suspected human remains were located.

The remains are yet to be formally identified, however police have confirmed they are liaising with Mr Burow’s family. Forensic examinations are ongoing.

As part of the inquiry, detectives have seized three vehicles of interest:

  • A black 2010 BMW X3 (Queensland registration 802NX4)

  • A black 2011 Ford Ranger utility (bearing false registration 257LX8)

  • A silver 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander (registration 385KU2)

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have seen these vehicles between August 21 and 26 across Brisbane, Ipswich, Yarraman, Blackbutt and the Sunshine Coast, or who may have relevant dashcam footage, to come forward.

To date, multiple crime scenes have been declared across the region, including sites at Kelvin Grove, Bli Bli, Pomona, and Lake MacDonald.

Two men, a 26-year-old from North Lakes and a 38-year-old from Sippy Downs, have already been charged with torture in connection to the case and remain in custody. The 38-year-old is due to reappear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 29, while the 26-year-old is scheduled to return on October 13.

The 38-year-old has since been identified as former CFMEU delegate Anthony Perrett, who was stood down from his union role weeks before his arrest. Court documents allege Mr Perrett and co-accused Billy Howard tortured Mr Burow prior to his disappearance.

Brisbane Regional Crime Co-ordinator, Detective Acting Superintendent Craig Williams, said police remain committed to finding answers.

“Every piece of information provided to police is crucial for this investigation. Police will continue to utilise every avenue available to us until we have answers,” he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
