Police have launched a homicide investigation after the death of a woman in Brisbane’s north overnight.

Emergency services were called to Osprey Place at Taigum around 12:30am Saturday, after reports of a woman found unresponsive. When officers arrived, they discovered 48-year-old Carra Samantha Luke with critical injuries. Sadly, she was declared dead at the scene.

About 40 minutes later, detectives attended a second address on Hackman Street at McDowall, where they located a 52-year-old man known to Ms Luke. He is currently assisting police with inquiries. At this stage, no charges have been laid.

Two crime scenes have been set up, one at the Taigum property where Ms Luke was found, and another at the McDowall address. Forensic officers spent much of the night combing the homes for evidence, while detectives from the Carseldine Criminal Investigation Branch and Homicide Squad continue to lead the investigation.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Rhys Wildman said all avenues of inquiry remain open, including whether the case is linked to domestic violence. He also acknowledged the confronting nature of the incident for first responders, confirming that welfare support has been arranged for the officers and paramedics involved.

Tributes have begun to flow for Ms Luke, who was a much-loved nurse in Brisbane’s northside for more than 25 years. Colleagues from Nundah Doctors Surgery remembered her as compassionate, dedicated, and someone who always put patients first. Neighbours described her as a kind, generous soul who looked out for those around her and often lent a hand to families in the street.

Friends have shared their grief on social media, calling her a “beautiful person with a heart of gold” and saying her sudden death has left the community devastated.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the Osprey Place area late Friday night or early Saturday morning to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist with the timeline of events.

The investigation is ongoing.
