Major Drug Bust in Brisbane South Sees $150,000 Worth of Illicit Substances Seized

Police in Brisbane’s south have made a significant dent in local drug activity, seizing a substantial quantity of dangerous drugs and charging two men following coordinated search warrants.

Yesterday, 15 September, officers from the Upper Mount Gravatt Tactical Crime Squad (UMG TCS) executed warrants at properties in Sunnybank Hills and Rochedale. The raids resulted in the seizure of 31 kilograms of illicit substances, with an estimated street value of $150,000.

Authorities also reportedly recovered equipment and cash linked to the production and trafficking of these dangerous drugs.

Two men from Sunnybank Hills have since been charged:

  • A 31-year-old man faces multiple counts, including possession of cocaine and methylamphetamine, possession of cannabis and tetrahydrocannabinols in quantities exceeding legal limits, trafficking and producing dangerous drugs, and possession of items used in the commission of a crime. He was refused bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today, 16 September.

  • A 28-year-old man faces charges including possession of cannabis and possession of property suspected to be connected to drug offences. He is scheduled to appear in court on 28 October.

Senior Sergeant Murray Cumner, Officer in Charge of UMG TCS, said the operation sends a strong message to those involved in drug-related crime.

"This operation has put a dent in criminal activity that causes widespread harm to our community," he said.
"Our officers remain committed to removing dangerous drugs from our streets. There is no place for the commission or trafficking of these harmful substances in our community. Anyone found responsible for serious offences of this nature can expect significant charges and zero tolerance from investigators."

Investigations into the wider trafficking network are ongoing, with police appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Residents with information are encouraged to contact Queensland Police to assist with the investigation.
